Battle of Gettysburg
Lee was the confederate general in the battle of Gettysburg. During this war he awaited the union general George G Meade's forces. On July 1st, 1863 the early Union success faltered as confederates pushed back the iron bridge. The Union had a force of 90,000 soldiers while the Confederacy only had 75,000. this battle lasted for three days. It was one of the most bloody battles in the Civil War. General Lee lost the battle to the Union and withdrew to Virginia, losing 23,000 men. The Union lost 17,500 men. |
